"New York sexy" di Candace Bushnell
Candace Bushnell is a name that perhaps little to say more, but it should be well known for having given birth to the book that inspired "Sex & the city ". But as its better-known "literary child" was different dall'atmosfere sparkling television series, so even a seemingly lightweight title as "New York sexy" has a decidedly dark side.
But imagine the new "Crime and Punishment", the Bushnell's book speaks to all of the success of a search (not younger) model. And if such a plot on paper may seem difficult to excite for 500 pages ... I assure you that it is not. Why? For one simple reason: the Bushnell does not give favoritism to his characters. There are dozens in the book but only one of them appears to be genuine and sincere. The others are all, to a greater or lesser extent, in search of success and power. And they follow their goals without scruples. You could almost say that the book is about a clash of puppeteers, skilled manipulators engaged in various games of chess. And the author is relentless in showing the reader the hypocrisy that surrounds them.
Elite New York there is a fine figure in this book shows us that people are queued in the hands of those who have success at that time, but then ready to abandon them now to try to get on the new winner.
Janey Wilcox, the protagonist, is not exempt from this category. Beautiful woman, intelligent, life has always chosen the easy way out, bypassing obstacles due to its charm. Would you like to do more, be valued as a person but ... find that it is not easy to fight to get what you want, especially when a shortcut is presented with ease.
exciting and moving, this book treads the success of a previous text, but it is the natural evolution. The style becomes more enriched and the author is very good in being able to trace all the characters of the story, even if there are only a few lines.
A book anyway ... but not too light, a stern and sincere look at a world that seems perfect and clean just because the garbage collectors are quick to take out the garbage.
